Choosing a signature font
The fonts are grouped by how they read on a page:
- Formal script — even, connected, copperplate-descended letters. Right for contracts, certificates and letters.
- Flourished — big capitals and long entry strokes. Looks striking as initials or a single name.
- Casual — rounder, upright or brush-like. Good for cards, artwork and email sign-offs.
- Quick hand — narrow, fast and slightly messy, closest to how people really sign at a counter.
A signature generated from a font looks most convincing when you shorten it. Try “Initial + surname”, raise the slant a few degrees and add an underline.
Vector outlines, not a font file
Many signature font generators export text that relies on the font being installed. SignatureSmith reads the font's glyph outlines in your browser and writes them into the SVG as paths, with kerning applied and your slant baked in. The file opens identically in Illustrator, Figma, Inkscape, Word or a browser, and can be cut by a vinyl plotter or engraved.

What is the best font for a signature?
For formal documents, a connected script with moderate slant such as Great Vibes, Allura or Alex Brush reads as a real pen signature. For a quicker, more personal look, loose hands like Herr Von Muellerhoff or Mr Dafoe resemble the way most people actually sign. Avoid bouncy display scripts for contracts; they look typed.
How does the cursive signature generator work?
Type your name and every font previews it at once. Choose one, adjust slant, size and spacing, add a finishing stroke, and download. The SVG export converts the letters into vector outlines, so it does not need the font installed to display.
Can I use these fonts commercially?
All 27 fonts are published under the SIL Open Font License through Google Fonts, which allows personal and commercial use. Your signature image itself is yours.
Is a typed signature as valid as a handwritten one?
Under the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation, an electronic signature, including a typed name in a script font, is generally valid if you intend it as your signature. Some documents need a wet-ink or qualified signature, so check if unsure.
Why does my signature look different from my real one?
A font draws every letter the same way each time. Real signatures abbreviate, join and flourish. Try the name form buttons (initials, first initial plus surname), add slant and a finishing stroke, or draw your own on the drawing pad.
